Why a cairn?
Our logo is a cairn, stones stacked by hand to mark a safe path across the barrens and along the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. When you see one, you know someone has been there before you and the way ahead is safe. That’s how we see care: steady, built together, and there to guide people home.
The stones at the base of a cairn carry everything above them. We acknowledge the trailblazers who showed us what this work could be, who lived lives of service, and whose legacy we stand on.

We started OWN because care is not a legacy to be managed. It is an investment in humanity, in the people who built this province and in the community all of us will grow old in. We are in this to deliver the care we would want to receive ourselves.
We have heard the frustrations. The waiting. A different face every week. Care should not depend on who you have advocating for you. It should be the standard. Your care plan is yours and not a template, and the caregiver who comes through your door is matched to you, not to a gap in a schedule.
The experience behind OWN. More than 15 years in this province’s home care sector, from front-line care through to Director of Operations at the province’s largest home support agency, with care delivered from St. John’s to Port aux Basques. That work meant leading an agency through national accreditation, building newcomer recruitment in partnership with the Association for New Canadians, and keeping an essential service running through the COVID-19 pandemic and the worst workforce shortage this sector has seen. It also meant years on the committees and Executive Board of the Home Care Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, arguing for protections that keep home care workers in the profession and for changes that improve care for the people receiving it.
