Your home.
Your care.
Your own.
OWN is a Newfoundland and Labrador home care agency built on a simple belief: needing support should never mean giving up the life that’s yours. We come to you: your house, your routines, your rules.
Founded by a care leader with nearly 15 years helping build one of the province’s largest home support operations.
What OWN stands for
Three letters. Our whole promise.
Ownership
Dignity and autonomy, first and always. Your routines, your rules, your roof. You stay in charge of how you live.
Wellbeing
Reliable hours, consistent caregivers, and clinical oversight that keeps small problems small.
Nurture
We treat clients and our caregivers as our own. Warmth here is policy, not garnish.
Why a cairn?
Along our coastlines and trails, a stack of stones marks the way: someone has been here before you, and the path is safe. Each stone in our logo is set with care so the whole stands steady. That’s the care we offer, so you and your family never have to find the way alone.
How we help
Personal Care
Bathing, dressing, mobility and meals. Hands-on support with dignity in every detail.
Home Support
Housekeeping, errands, and companionship that keep your household running your way.
Respite & Overnight
Relief for family caregivers, up to round-the-clock coverage, so everyone gets to rest.
RN Oversight
A Registered Nurse oversees every care plan and the tasks our team provides. Delegation of specific tasks is available when appropriate.
End-of-Life Care
Gentle, comfort-focused care at home, alongside family and palliative teams, so the last chapter is lived where it belongs.
Private Pay Home Care
Arrange care directly with us, with no referral or waitlist. Flexible hours, from a few visits a week to round-the-clock support.
We will soon be able to accept Home Support Services (HSS) requests. In the meantime, we welcome private pay referrals and are happy to talk through how we can help.
Cared for as our own
“As our own” isn’t a slogan here. It’s the standard behind every decision: we treat each client the way we’d want to be treated, and the way we’d want our own families treated.
Advocacy, whenever it’s needed
When the system is slow or the answer is wrong, we speak up for our clients, to anyone we have to.
No one feels alone
Care is company as much as it is help. Nobody on our watch faces their day, or their worries, by themselves.
Families get to be families
When the care is handled, a daughter can just be a daughter again. That’s the point of us.
One standard for everyone
Private pay or publicly funded, in town or around the bay, every client gets the same high standard of care.
Own the work.
Own the standard.
Own the outcome.
OWN is one person’s standard, made into a company. Founder Hamerti “Amie” Melka spent nearly 15 years in Newfoundland and Labrador home care, rising from front-line care to Director of Operations at the province’s largest home support agency. She led operations across five regions, from St. John’s to Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor, Stephenville, Rocky Harbour and Port aux Basques: nearly tripling regional service volume, leading national accreditation, and keeping an essential service running through the COVID-19 pandemic and a historic workforce shortage.
Beyond her own agency, she served on the Executive Board of the Home Care Association of Newfoundland and Labrador and on several of its committees, advocating for the protections that keep home care workers in the profession. Her background is in occupational health and safety and public health.
OWN is what she believes care should be: dignity and autonomy for every client, advocacy when it’s needed, and the best of care for everyone.
Do the work you got into care for.
We treat our caregivers as our own, too. That means steady hours, clients you get to know, and a leadership team that has worked the front line and answers the phone.
